Block work mesh is used to reinforce masonry block walls, helping to prevent shrinkage cracks and improve structural integrity by distributing loads and stresses evenly.
Welded mesh has pre-formed square/rectangular wire grids, while expanded mesh is made from slitted and stretched metal sheets. Expanded mesh is lighter and offers better keying for mortar, while welded mesh provides stronger, rigid support.
While not always mandatory, block mesh is highly recommended in areas prone to movement, thermal stress, or where dissimilar materials meet, such as near openings or in high-rise buildings.
